REACTION BLOCKS: BOHDAN

Bohdan has just released an enhanced line of its MiniBlock™ Synthesizers. These blocks hold up to 48 disposable polypropylene-fritted tubes in a 48-well format (6 x 8 array) offering also the capability of accommodating IRORI's Microkans for parallel cleavage and the use of a manifold for the MiniBlocks™ to allow the use of inert atmosphere when needed.

To synthesize and collect 96 discrete compounds in a 96 deep-well plate the MiniBlocks™ have been designed in such a way that while one MiniBlock™ has its 48 polypropylene-fritted tubes spaced to line up with 48 alternate wells of a 96-well plate (A1, A3, A5,...B2, B4, B6... etc.) the other MiniBlock™ has its tubes lined up with the complementary wells (A2, A4, A6,... B1, B3, B5... etc.). The MiniBlocks™ can also be used to synthesize and collect compounds in a 24-well array (4 X 6) by using 2 adjacent tubes to synthesize the exact same compound. For reactions under inert atmosphere Bohdan offers a special top for the MiniBlock™. And to heat and cool Bohdan also has a heating-cooling add-on layer.

Bohdan is about to release high volume options for the MiniBlock™, in order to make them more attractive for medicinal chemists. These allow reaction vessels of up to 40ml to be used on existing MiniBlocks™. "The new MiniBlock™ configurations mean that medicinal chemists can design, develop and optimize chemistry procedures on the same platform as combinatorial chemists use to produce large libraries of compounds", says Ben Moshiri, Ph.D., Director of development and marketing of the MiniBlock™ at Bohdan.

The Bohdan MiniBlocks™ can now be fitted and used directly with the new IRORI Kan™ 10KX Autosorting station. For more information on this new capability click here.

Bohdan includes in its product line a customized New Brunswick Scientific's Innova 2100 orbital shaking-washing station, water circulator and a vacuum-cleaving station.

Bohdan has also available its MiniBlock™ XT for parallel solution phase syntesis. This modular system accommodates 1 MiniBlock™ with different arrays (3 x 2, 3 x 4, and 6 x 4) allowing the use of 2 ml to 50 ml glass tube reactors. This unit sits on a magnetic stirrer, it comes with a temperature control system to allow chemistries from -70 °C to +160 °C using either a low-temperature bath or a recirculating heat/cool base. The system uses a special tops with multi-layer sealing gaskets for all MiniBlock™ array formats to carry out reactions under inert atmosphere.
