ASINEX
and Vasopharm BIOTECH, are pleased to announce the completion of
the first part of a multi-stage lead generation project for novel
Nitric Oxide synthase inhibitors. NO-synthases play a key role in
the regulation of biological processes in organisms, a clear picture
of their mechanisms of action has not yet been clearly developed.
Protein Modeling and Flexible Docking was successfully performed
by ASINEX's Department of Molecule Design & Analysis on the
basis of previous investigations by Vasopharm BIOTECH, and extensive
studies by ASINEX. Potential compounds with enzyme inhibitor activity
valid against the 3 isoforms of NOS were selected from ASINEX's
in-house Platinum Collection of small molecule compounds. Approximately
1000 compounds are now being tested in biological assays.
'ASINEX's computational department in combination with their chemical
expertise will significantly accelerate our drug development process
and create an ideal synergism to our in-house computational drug
discovery platform' explains Dr. Frank Tegtmeier, Vasopharm's CSO.
Dimitri
Genis, CEO, ASINEX said 'We are very happy to collaborate with Vasopharm
who work in the interesting field of the NO/cGMP signaling pathway.
We are especially delighted that Vasopharm has recognized the expertise
of our computational department in combination with our recognized
chemical expertise.'
ASINEX of Moscow is a full-service chemistry provider of 'Intelligent
Chemistry` for the lead generation and optimization stage of drug
discovery. Well known as a supplier of diverse small molecule libraries
for screening, and building blocks for combi-chem. ASINEX has developed
a reputation for cost-effective and efficient lead optimization,
custom synthesis and focused library generation. ASINEX's In-House
generated Platinum collection now contains more than 100,000 compounds.
Combinatorial Constructor is based on Platinum templates, it is
a well-validated real/virtual collection of 1,200,000 structures.
Advanced GPCR, Kinase and Ion-Channel targeted libraries have been
recently launched. They were generated using the expertise of ASINEX's
computational, chemical and bio-screening facilities.
Vasopharm BIOTECH GmbH, Wurzburg, Germany. Our corporate goal is
the development of diagnostic and therapeutic applications for the
treatment of cardiovascular and cerebal diseases. Its core competence
is based on the understanding of the NO/cGMP signaling pathway and
its clinical significance. The company was founded in July 1998
and was established as a spin-off from the University of Wurzburg
by Dr. Harald Schmidt, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology,
and Dr. Ulrich Walter, Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry;
both opinion leaders in the NO/cGMP field.
