Radleys
(Saffron Walden, UK) have introduced Lara, a Controlled Laboratory
Reactor (CLR) system that sets new standards in flexibility and
ease-of-use for process automation.

Lara
With
many years experience in developing and supplying glass reaction
vessels to the leading process laboratories worldwide, Radleys have
now designed an innovative, modular system that offers the capabilities
normally associated with much higher priced CLR's. Unlike do-it-yourself
systems, Lara (TM) delivers a complete integrated solution, with
hardware and software components that have been specifically designed
to provide optimal performance and reliability.
The
standard Lara system comprises a choice of easily interchangeable
jacketed glass reaction vessels (500ml, 1 litre and 5 litres), integral
stirrer, secure mounting stand with an intuitive, easy-to-use PC
control system to set-up and run experiments. The compact footprint
of Lara minimises valuable laboratory space and allows the unit
to easily fit into a regular fume hood. The standard system offers
direct connection for up to 3 sensors and the utility of controlling
an unlimited number of third party devices via RS232 or analog input
/ outputs. Lara has been designed to operate over a -70 to + 200
oC temperature range and can work under vacuum or with inert atmospheres.
Drawing
upon Radleys considerable practical experience, the system has a
range of simple yet valuable features that make the day-to-day running
of the system easy and productive. Everything from the novel single-handed
clamp mechanism that holds the reaction vessel and lid, to the integral
hinged stirrer drive that simply lifts out of the way after use,
have been designed for simplicity and ease-of-use. Designed as a
future proof investment, a range of plug 'n' play expansion modules
will be available for Lara to develop its capabilities and functionality
as experimental requirements change. Modules will include automated
reagent addition, calorimetry, crystallisation, liquid / liquid
extraction, fractionation and automated sampling.
