Guava
Technologies, Inc., a biomedical products company focused on developing
and commercialising cell-based analysis systems for life science
R&D and clinical diagnostics, today announced it doubled revenues
from sales of its innovative products during 2003 for the second
consecutive year. Triple-digit revenue growth was driven by strong
sales of the Guava PCA, Guava PCA-96, and the Guava PCA-96 AFP Systems,
as well as key reagent and software products.
"New
products, fueled by strong demand from cell biology research customers
at top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as many
academic and government laboratories, drove sales growth,"
said Rajen Dalal, president and chief executive officer of Guava
Technologies. "Our expanded sales and marketing team has been
very effective at demonstrating to more customers that Guava's turnkey
micro-volume approach to cell analysis and counting makes sophisticated
cellular assays more affordable and accessible, reducing research
time and the cost of discovering and developing new therapies and
vaccines."
Guava
Technologies has today installed hundreds of systems at leading
research organisations worldwide. All of the top 20 pharmaceutical
and the top 10 biotechnology companies, as well as the National
Institutes of Health and many leading universities and government
labs have purchased one or more Guava instruments for their cell
analysis research.
During 2003, Guava launched the Guava PCA-96 System, a green-laser
based system that can count, screen, and profile cells in the highly
productive 96-well plate format. The Guava PCA-96 began shipping
in May. Guava also launched its new Guava PCA-96 AFP System in October,
the only solid state blue-laser, micro-volume cell analysis system
capable of screening single cells at the research bench top for
GFP (green fluorescent protein) expression in an automated format.
About
Guava Technologies
Guava
Technologies, Inc. is a leading provider of integrated, fully optimized
microcytometry and cell counting systems. Guava serves the worldwide
life science, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, offering
a state-of-the-art, comprehensive portfolio of products designed
to accelerate discovery and increase productivity right at the laboratory
bench with accessible, easy-to-use solutions to the biologist's
testing problems. Guava's products have broad applications in scientific
research, drug discovery, cell counting, and optimization of commercial
bioproduction. Guava's technology also offers potential for use
in clinical testing and blood processing, as well as other areas
where single cell counting is important.
The
Guava PCA systems offer an integrated, optimised approach that takes
the guesswork out of single cell analysis and counting. Based on
patented micro-capillary technology, the Guava PCA systems are available
in three formats. These cell analysis systems are flexible, highly
affordable and ultra-compact, requiring only a few microlitres of
sample volume, thus saving precious and expensive cells, reagents
and compounds. Guava offers a variety of assays and dedicated software
modules for the Guava PCA systems, enhancing the system's overall
ease-of-use.
